SHTS is an acronym for Savez
Hemicara i Tehnologa Srbije, which can be translated into English as the Association
of Chemists and Chemical Engineers of Serbia.
SHTS was established in 1963, incorporated as the professional society of
chemists and chemical engineers into the non-governmental and non-profit Society
of Engineers and Technicians of Serbia.
SHTS was initially created to:

Enhance the national development of chemical industry and the application of chemical technologies in allied industries through the exchange of experience between professionals;

Promote the progress of chemistry, chemical technology and chemical engineering in Serbia through the organizing of national and international symposia, conferences, seminars, courses and workshops;
-
Develop regular publishing activity having a task to popularize the achievements in the area;
-
Take care of the professional knowledge of its members in all spheres of chemistry, chemical technology and chemical engineering and also to verify this by issuance of certain certificates;
-
Establish connections with institutions and organizations from abroad, which are active in the field of chemistry and chemical engineering;
Nowdays, SHTS deals with a larger variety of tasks and duties, including:

Initiation and/or coordination of research & development projects of wider national interest;

Dealing with Total Quality Management, as well as environment and safety related issues;

Preparation of national Chemical and Allied Industries Directory on the Internet;
-
Preparation of national production and trade analysis for chemical, plastic and rubber goods;
-
Participation on different events at national and international level, etc.

work within SHTS is carried out in several fields:

Consulting in Laboratory Quality Systems Development - AcroLab;

Consulting in Quality Systems Development in
accordance with requirements of ISO 9000 standards - QLab;

Enviromental Management Systems Development - EMS, including Responsible Care;

Visual Modelling - VizMod.
As independent part of SHTS, The Society of Accredited Laboratories (SAL) has been founded. SAL is professional association of testing and calibration laboratories with certified laboratory quality systems.
The
assembly of SHTS’s members convenes every 4 years to elect the Presidency - management
body responsible for the fulfillment of the Association’s tasks and duties.
The current President and Executive Secretary of the Presidency are Zoran
Popovic, M.Sc.Chem. Eng. and Ljubomir Sekulic, M.Sc.Chem.Eng.
